The Eindhoven region is a European leading region in technology. The SRE IVIilieudienst was established in 1994 and is one of the largest environmental service agencies for local government in the Netherlands. It is part of SRE, a Public Body occupied with co-operation initiatives within the so called 'triple helix' (collaboration between enterprises, research institutions and government) and (socio-economic) development of the Eindhoven region in the south-east of the Netherlands. The members of the SRE board are appointed under national law (Law on Communal Regulations, Wgr+).
All board members are delegates from the local governmental authorities that own the SRE Milieudienst.

As a regional body, The SRE Milieudienst supports governments in implementing their policies and
achieving their goals regarding environment and spatial planning. The main customers of the SRE
Milieudienst are the 21 municpalities in the Eindhoven region and other institutions such as Provinces,
Ministeries and the Partnership of Water. More than 250 professionals deal with all kinds of environmental problems and spatial planning in its broadest implication. The environm+ental questions are not treated as isolated issues, but are dealt with in an integral manner. Besides the environment, matters such as town and country planning, archeology, economy and the policy towards nature are taken into account.

This means that the SRE Milieudienst searches for solutions and structural improvement for environmental problems by werking together with different kinds of stakeholders: national and local
authorities, citizens, companies and non-government organisations. Doing so, the SRE Milieudienst
has gained excellent expertise in almost every environmental issue, for example licensing, enforcement, soil, sound, energy, climate and waste management SRE Milieudienst strengthens its projects by putting in its expertise on sustainability and livability at local level. Central aspects in these projects are participation, co-makership and shared responsibility.

High quality products and services and satisfied customers are the main objectivities in every project Since 199 the SRE Milieudienst is ISO 9001 certified and since 2002 the SRE Milieudienst is also ISO 14001 certified.
